What to Expect When you Visit
What to expect at your first session
If this is your first experience with hypnotherapy, you may be curious about what it will be like, or maybe you’ve had sessions with other practitioners and wonder how this will be different. Either way, I’d like to give you an idea of what you can expect.
Length of Sessions
If you are coming in for a free consult, the consult will only be up to 30 minutes long.
Usually, a session will last from between 50 mins to 90 mins. First sessions are usually 90 minutes.
During Our First Session
We will take time at the beginning of your first session to review your intake form together and talk about what brought you to Rethink Mind and Body Solutions. We will discuss your goals for counselling and hypnotherapy in general, and what changes you would like to see for yourself, in the near future.
Depending on which location or room you are in, you may be able to choose whether you sit, lie or lounge while you have your hypnotherapy session.
It is important for you to remember, that at all times during the session, you are in total control of the content and amount of information you share, and you may change the direction of your therapy or end it at any time. If you need a moment for a drink or water or a bathroom break, just ask.
While in trance, some people experience a fluttering of their eyelids or a tingling sensation, while others feel a lightness as though floating or alternatively may feel incredibly heavy, yet completely relaxed. Most notice only subtle changes when the session is completed, and they emerge from the trance feeling completely relaxed, often unaware of how much time has passed.
There is no “right” way to experience a trance state. However, there is one thing that is true for everybody, only YOU can allow yourself to go to whatever depth of hypnosis you want to experience – I am only there to guide you in the process and cannot make you do it.
You are free to make your own choices and to accept some, all or none of the suggestions which may arise during the session. Any changes you choose to make, or not make, are up to you and the work is yours to do as well.
Each hypnotherapy session is a unique and interactive form of therapy where you can communicate directly with me and your subconscious to discover the underlying issues, their origins and the means to resolve them. Since most of our behaviours and automatic thoughts come from the subconscious, that is where we look for the answers.
Our hypnotherapy sessions will usually entail having a script read to you while you relax, listen and go into trance. Each script is personalised to meet your individual needs and goals. During your time in trance, you may engage in a conversation, to allow your subconscious to reveal the information that will be helpful in making the changes you’d like to see in your life. Although each session will have a specific intent, we will simultaneously be working towards your goals.
At the end of the session, I will bring you out of the trance and you will remember everything that happened during the session. You may be surprised to notice a time distortion, as time passes more quickly in trance. We take a further few minutes to discuss your experience, and answer any questions you may have before leaving.
Some people may be given additional work to do between sessions and others may like to record any insights that arise, by journaling after their hypnotherapy sessions. This can deepen your integration of the learnings from your session and allows you to maintain your momentum from our work together.
It is my goal for the session that you observe some level of realisation or noticeable alteration in thoughts, responses, behaviour, etc. Some people experience subtle changes during the session or in the days that follow, while others have a more extraordinary and profound response to hypnotherapy, even with just one session. However, I cannot make any guarantees about what changes you will see, this is up to you.
